How to Start & Succeed with a Home Based Business
Updated: Aug 14, 2020

Gone are the days of trusting in Corporate America. Now is the time, to assess your inventory of God-given gifts and talents to build your own economy.
Within the soul of every believer, is the ability to generate an income. I can make this bold statement for two reasons:
1. The Holy Spirit that dwells in you, holds the riches of God’s eternal and abundant wisdom. According to Proverbs 8:18, riches, honor, and enduring wealth are housed in the spirit of wisdom. You, being a child of God, has access to such wisdom and will need it in order to start and grow a successful home-based business.
2. The Kingdom of God, of which you are a citizen, must be financed. Every king has a duty to utilize their resources to produce a prosperous economical system within their territories; Jesus Christ, the Sovereign of Sovereigns, births entrepreneurial spirit-filled believers into the planet to ensure that His kingdom is financed. You are God's resource.

The problem is, our society has been institutionalized from childhood. Through the industrial complex, we are programmed to get an education and a job as the only means to secure our livelihood. Even in our churches, little if any teachings are focused on entrepreneurship. According to Barna.com article "Three Trends on Faith, Work and Calling," only 40% of Christians say they have a clear sense of their divine calling. This means, based on Barna's research, 60% of saints are ignorant of the mission and mandate on their lives, including entrepreneurship. If you have a proclivity towards business, the exchange of good or services for currency, large or small, then you have a mantle to conduct business.

God develops our business mantles from childhood. I recall learning how to sew pillows in home economics class and turning that skill into a small business by the age of 13. Review over your childhood, can you recall any instances where you engaged in business activities such as: selling products or services, negotiation, or bartering?
If so, given the Covid-19 quarantine, the market is primed for you to step out on faith, do your research and start that home-based business.
To set you up for success, here are 5 Wisdom Keys of instruction that you must enact for building any sustainable and bankable business.
1. Prayer. As a “Kingdompreneurs,” it is crucial for you to seek the Lord Jesus Christ for wisdom, guidance, and resources. The scripture instructs us, to seek the Kingdom of God & His righteousness first and the provisions in which we seek will be given to us by the Great Provider (Matthew 6:33). God supplies what He has authorized to place in the Earth. Keep in mind that provision comes in several forms. The Lord may supply the startup finances or supply you a channel to generate the income needed to start the business.
Matthew 7:7 tells us, to ask and it will be given to you, seek and you will find, knock and the door will be opened to you. This is 3-fold instruction for divine manifestation in our lives.

2. Research. In business, ignorance is not bliss, it’s a setup for failure. Research the industry or market that you are planning to enter. The greater the problems that your business solves, the more you can charge for your products and services. Look at potential competitors and check out their offerings, then develop some solutions that you can uniquely provide that will add value to your potential clients.

3. Education. For any house to stand, it must be built on a solid foundation or it will cease to exist (Matthew 7:24-27); this biblical principle can be applied to your business. If a builder, builds a house without a strong foundation, he or she is considered negligent. It is your duty, to get educated on the science of business. Every business requires the following 4 pillars to generate a consistent cash flow: finances, marketing, branding, and systems.
Finances include your sales strategies, pricing, and accounting.
Marketing makes the market aware of your existence. Facebook Advertisements are one form of marketing. Marketing is how you attract paying customers who want or need the solutions you offer.
Branding is what your business communicates to the marketplace about itself. Your mission statement is a factor that cultivates your brand identity.
Systems cover the daily activities and technologies that keep the business in a sustainable and profitable state.

4. Planning. Planning is a skill that must be mastered as an entrepreneur. Goal setting, a derivative of planning, is a potent way to propel your business. Setting intentional goals, whether large or small, then creating plans to achieve those goals defeats stagnation in all areas. You must set goals for your sales, marketing efforts, & general tasks to succeed.
The entrepreneurship game boots out the slothful, undisciplined, and fearful.
To build your courage and faith, I highly suggest creating goals that stretch your comfort zone and always ask the Lord Jesus for help and partnership.

5. Delegate. Oftentimes with my solopreneurs, I notice they try to do everything. Business has a lot of moving parts and can be very demanding, especially during the startup phase. I encourage my clients to hire contractors to handle nonprofit generating activities.
For example, if you produce and sell widgets, then you need to hire someone gifted in web design to build your website. Why spend 3 weeks creating a website when your gift is production and sales? Every moment you spend on website development, your bottom line is being robbed.
A great website to hire inexpensive 3rd party contractors is Fiverr.com. Through Fiverr, you can hire professionals specializing in everything from Facebook Ads, Web Design, Graphic Design, and so forth. Now, keep in mind, you get what you pay for but nevertheless Fiverr is filled with talented experts.
